George Dennis Martin, 63, passed away January 21, 2012 at the Pawnee Valley Community Hospital, Larned.
He was born April 15, 1948 at Great Bend. The son of George Earl and Maxine Salmans Martin. A lifetime area resident; except for 17 years when he was a warehouse manager for Houghton Mifflin Publishing Co., Batavia, IL. He also assisted with the formation of Riverside Publishing Co. Chicago, IL. He was the Managing Editor for the Tiller and Toiler Newspaper.
He was born of the Baptist faith and attended the Sts Mary and Martha Episcopal Church, Larned. He was a 32nd degree Mason, and a member of the Shriners, Scottish Rite, Blue Lodge, Rotary International, Sons of the American Revolution, TKE, Pawnee County Economic Development, Larned Chamber of Commerce, Kansas Press Association and Fort Hays State University Alumni Association.
Survivors include; his mother, Larned, his fiancé, Dolores Wren, Larned, a brother, Robert Earl Martin and wife Janet, Prairie Village, KS six nieces and nephews, and fifteen great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by; his father and a brother Thomas Leslie Martin.
Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, at the Beckwith Mortuary Chapel with Father Mark Cowell presiding. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at the Beckwith Mortuary, Larned. Burial with Masonic graveside rites will be in the Larned Cemetery, Larned.
